I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
How to do it...
- The first step in a Gameday exercise is selecting a system that will be tested. When you're just getting started with Gamedays, it's wise to select a system that is well understood, has failed before, and has a limited blast radius in terms of the impact on users.
- Once the service is selected, gather the team responsible for its development and operation, and start brainstorming different failure scenarios. If there is a data store, consider what could happen if it were suddenly unavailable due to a hardware failure. Perhaps the database could be shut down manually. What happens if the database is terminated in an unsafe way? The service runs in some kind of clustered configuration, so what happens if one node is removed ...
