Creating lookup formulas is one of the most common tasks that Excel users have had to do over the past 40 years, and this will continue to be the case for the next 40 years. All the way back in 1979, when Bricklin and Frankston invented the first spreadsheet, VisiCalc, they included the LOOKUP function as 1 of the original 25 worksheet functions because they said they wanted to be able to do their taxes with a spreadsheet.
