The Two-Way Grid: Cells, Worksheets, and Workbooks
Before you can get started learning about the amazing tools and features in Excel, you have to understand how an Excel file is set up. In particular, you need to understand the structure of Excel’s two-way grid and its various elements. Excel is said to have a two-way grid because data, formulas, and other elements can be copied in only two directions: vertically (numbers) and horizontally (letters). Figure 5.1 illustrates the following important elements of an Excel file:
