Most infrastructure services can be broken down into smaller units to simplify planning. Even a very large multi-site application needs a site-by-site implementation plan. It is important, therefore, to thoughtfully plan the scope of the project and address each collection of work one unit at a time. A unit could be a single application, a Web farm, a department, a site, or any other logical collection that has a clear boundary. This approach has two main benefits:
