The 32-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 takes advantage of and runs on 32-bit platforms. When considering the 32-bit edition, the organization should take the following into account:
Hardware repurposing. The organization can repurpose existing 32-bit hardware for IIS 7.0. Doing so can reduce the capital expenditure that purchasing new hardware requires.
Application compatibility. Applications designed for 32-bit environments will continue to run on 32-bit editions of Windows Server 2008. In addition, this edition of the operating system supports 16-bit applications.
