Identifying Active Directory Permissions

Active Directory is a database of objects. For example, it includes user objects to represent users, computer objects to represent computers, and group objects to represent groups. These objects are organized in Active Directory using organizational units (OUs) and simple containers (such as the Users and Computers containers).

Active Directory is hosted on a domain controller, a server running Active Directory Domain Services.

As an example, an organization can create different OUs for the different departments. It can have an OU for the Sales department, the IT department, the Finance department, and so on. All user and computer objects for each department are placed in the corresponding OU.
