Comparing Security Zones

The different Internet Explorer security zones provide default security settings for different security purposes. For example, if your organization hosts a website on your internal network (your intranet), then you can consider it relatively safe from malware. By configuring the site to run in the local intranet, it will run with relaxed security, providing greater usability. In contrast, websites on the Internet are generally suspect because it’s so easy for an attacker to create a malicious website. Sites from the Internet run in the Internet security zone, which provides a higher level of security than the local intranet zone.
