Chapter 7. MmWave Physical Layer Design and Algorithms

7.1 Introduction

In this section we survey physical layer (PHY) signal processing for communication at millimeter wavelengths. Specific examples from existing 60 GHz standards (WPANs and WLANs) are included to enhance this discussion, but the concepts are applicable to many new mmWave systems that will be developed in the future.

Traditionally, PHY algorithm design and selection is completed through simulation and analysis of the linear system model with impulse-response characterizations of the wireless channel [RF91][RHF93][FRT93][TSRK04].
