Getting ready

While this recipe doesn't need a syslog daemon to work, you will need one to check that it's properly working or the messages won't be readable. In the case of Linux or macOS systems, this is usually configured out of the box, but in the case of a Windows system, you will need to install a Syslog server or use a cloud solution. Many exist and a quick search on Google should provide you with some cheap or even free alternatives.
