How it works...

The pdb module exposes a set_trace function which, when called, stops execution and enters the interactive debugger.

From here on, your prompt will change (to Pdb) and you can send commands to the debugger or print variable values just by writing their name.

The pdb debugger has many commands; the most useful ones are the following:

  • next: To continue execution of code one line at a time
  • continue: To continue execution of code until the next breakpoint is reached
  • list: To print the code that is currently being executed

To see a complete list of commands, you can use the help command, which will list all the available commands. And you can use the help command to get help on a specific command.
