A lot has changed in more recent Python versions regarding the http.server module. The newest version, Python 3.7, already provides the ThreadingHTTPServer class out of the box and it's now possible to configure a specific directory to be served by SimpleHTTPRequestHandler, thus removing the need to customize the translate_path method to serve a specific directory.
