Scanners in MFPs
The basic configurations of CCD and CIS scanners are shown in Chapter 1. Most MFPs use CIS scanners. Improvements have been made in less expensive (CIS) scan technology of 36-bit devices. Better color depth is provided. Usually the scanner engine in MFP machines is that of a less expensive single-function unit. Nevertheless, specifications indicate that adequate performance is achieved in most MFPs with such units.
Resolution, gray scale (half-tones), and scan speeds are important characteristics. In a selected group of MFPs in a price range of such PC peripherals, the minimum resolution was 300 × 300 dpi and some models had 1,200 × 1,200 dpi resolution. Half-tones were 256 in most models.
