13Security in Routing
13.1 Introduction
Security of a network ensures that the network is available along with its required components and services at the time of requirement. The requirement can extend up to 24 hours per day and 7 days a week (24 × 7) throughout the year. The network security also has to ensure the integrity and security of the data that is being carried through it [1]. The security of a network is not only ensured by technical solutions and foolproof security products, it also involves policies, operational procedures, operating environment, physical security, social engineering, and many other non‐technical aspects. The network loses its significance if it cannot ensure availability and integrity of the data in it, as this is what the networks are established for. The region of presence and severity of a network failure or compromise can vary from an intraorganizational localization to a national catastrophe or international influence. ...
