What is NFV?
The OpenStack Foundation describes NFV as simply a new way to define, create, and manage network functions and services by replacing dedicated physical devices with software that can be automated and managed by OpenStack. Just like virtual machines took the place of many dedicated servers in the data center, NFV simply continues the mindset of replacing proprietary and inflexible physical hardware with software. This is where a Virtual Network Functions (VNF) come in to play.
