Zero or Minimal Downtime Migrations with Oracle GoldenGate
Of the various migration techniques and methods described in this book, migration using Oracle GoldenGate is the only true way to do a migration with little or no downtime. This is because Oracle GoldenGate allows for the source and target systems to be kept completely in sync during the cutover using bidirectional replication. In fact, for a true zero downtime migration, it is possible to move applications from source to target while both systems are still being used.
