In the following chapter, “PL/SQL Review,” and subsequent chapters, like Chapter 12, “Working with PL/SQL Server Pages (PSPs),” you apply your knowledge of working with the NVL and DECODE substitution functions. The next chapter discusses the CASE statement. You may wish to substitute the CASE statement for functionality you would otherwise obtain with NVL and DECODE.
