There are many things to consider when making use of images in your Web application. The two main things to consider are image quality and download speed. These two considerations work in juxtaposition. In order for the image to be the best quality it will be a large file, but you also want your image files to be the smallest size possible in order to reduce the time it takes for the page to display. In order for an image to be displayed, the entire image file must be downloaded into the browser.
