I will introduce you to Polarity Management in an analysis of this
Team/Individual issue. The dilemma was “How to support the Indi-
vidual and support the Team.” I asked the managers to help me fill
out a Polarity Map by identifying the upside and downside of each
pole—the Team pole and the Individual pole. Figure 1 shows the
Polarity Map, our starting point.
The Polarity Map is represented by two poles. The left half
represents one pole, which in this case is the Individual. The right
half represents the other pole, which in this case is the Team.
