The new event command defines virtual events like <<Cut>> <<Copy>> and <<Paste>>. These virtual events map to different physical events on different platforms. For example, <<Copy>> is <Control-c> on Windows and <Command-c> on Macintosh. You can write your scripts in terms of virtual events, and you can define new virtual events for your application.
