Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the individual psychological impacts of climate change in their direct, indirect, and vicarious forms. The role of cultural values and ideals of social and environment justice are highlighted as these provide the lenses through which many people around the world understand how climate change affects them. A distinction is made between climate effects on mental health, such as trauma in the wake of disasters, and effects on psychological flourishing as the burden of climate change jeopardizes people’s ability to enjoy positive emotions and trust in the future.
