人工知能（artificial intelligence：AI）とは、機械に思考させ知性を持たせる方法のことです。機械はその内部においてソフトウェアで制御されているので、AIは機械を制御するための知的なソフトウェアに密接に関係しています。機械に世界を理解させ、人間と同じように状況判断させるには、理論や方法論を発見する科学が役に立ちます。
この2、30年の間にAIの分野が浮上してきた様子をよく見れば、研究者によって異なる概念でAIが定義されてきたことがわかるでしょう。現代においては、AIはさまざまな形態で、多岐にわたって使われています。機械が自分で感じ、納得し、考え、行動してもらいたいのです。同時に、機械には合理的でもあってもらいたいのです。 ...
