It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The basic goal of regression analysis is to use data to analyze causal relationships. Thus, the starting point for any regression analysis is to have something to analyze. That is, we begin with some idea or hypothesis we want to test, and we then gather data and analyze these data to see if our idea is verified.
