「Xcode」という用語は2種類の意味をもっています。開発者向けのツール全体、つまりXcodeをインストールしたときにディスクにコピーされる（InstrumentsやiPhone Simulatorなども含む）一群のツールを表す名前でもあり、そのツール群に含まれている単独のアプリケーション（Xcode.app）の名前でもあるのです。文脈からどちらを指しているかは明らかなので、問題になることはほとんどありません。 |
Xcodeは強力かつ複雑で、きわめて巨大なプログラムです。筆者はXcodeを初心者に紹介する際は、あえて「視野を狭くする」ことを勧めています。何かわからないことがあっても気にせずに「棚上げ」しておいてください。余計な変更をしてしまわないよう、わからないときは触らないでおいてください。この本でも同じように進めます。Xcodeの機能のうち頻繁に使うものに重点を置き、それ以外はきっぱり無視します。
詳しい情報が必要なときは8章を参考にAppleが提供するドキュメントを調べてください。Xcodeだけについて書かれた本もあるほどなので、はじめは情報量の多さに圧倒されるかもしれませんが、求めている情報はきっと見つかるでしょう。
