Chapter 2. DTS—An Overview
The DTS package is a data transformation application. A package can be as simple as running bulk copy to load a comma-delimited file into a SQL Server database or as complex as coordinating the combined work of many packages that extract, cleanse, and load data for a business intelligence system.
This chapter briefly introduces you to the power and flexibility of DTS by building a sample package. We do not expect you to understand everything you see and use here, but we hope you will be challenged and your interest sparked by the possibilities DTS offers.
