Starting with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft included the Microsoft Repository for storing and managing meta data, models, components and objects for reusability, interoperability, team development, data resource management, and dependency tracking. The Microsoft Repository is known as Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000. By using Meta Data Services, you can track the source, transformation, and destination of the data used in the package over time.
