Property Management and You

The function of the property person is to design, create, and/or purchase the props. The stage manager’s usual function is to supervise. To do this effectively, you should understand all aspects of property management.

In union theatres the prop person is paid for services. In community, educational, showcase, and children’s theatre the property person is usually an unpaid volunteer. Some people do not consider working on props particularly exciting or glamorous but it calls for someone who is methodical and takes pride in the work.
