The function of the house manager (HM) is to ensure the audience’s safety and comfort from the time they enter the venue to their departure after the show.
In large commercial theatres, HMs belong to their own union: the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (page 308). In a small company, the HM may be one of the actors.
