Chapter 4
Reaching Domain-Driven Results
Domain-driven is a curious term. The Merriam-Webster dictionary gives ten definitions for the word domain. The first three might be among the ideas that come to mind when thinking of this word:
Complete and absolute ownership of land
A territory over which dominion is exercised
A region distinctively marked by some physical feature
This book discusses business software strategy and innovation. Because every business is unique, it could well be that “domain” draws attention to the “dominion” of the business ownership of properties and operations, and perhaps even the distinctive features among these. While not wrong, none of these is the best interpretation of how “domain” is used in this book.
