Chapter 11. Advanced Interactivity
Up to this point in the book, we’ve discussed using actions to build dynamic visualizations (Chapter 9) as well as using data modeling to expand our visual universe (Chapter 10). Dynamic visualizations are what our audiences have come to expect. When they click a value, they expect the visualization to react.
Many times, however, we have not designed our visualizations to react to these actions. We can, as developers, anticipate the actions of our audiences and design around their intuition. We can use data modeling of simple data sources, along with interactions to build visual systems. These systems will look like buttons or dynamic legends or even table headers.
In this chapter, we’ll take Tableau to another level by showing you how to build visual systems that will enhance the way your audience works with data. This chapter is not about industry-specific use cases. It is about showing you how to build advanced interaction types by combining the principles from Chapters 9 and 10.
