High availability (HA) may look simple on the surface but is actually pretty hard to do correctly. It would be possible to devote a complete book to the subject alone. In this chapter, we will cover the basics just to give you a flavor of how HA works. If you get hungry for more, we are sure that you will find what you are looking for in other sources. First we'll go over some of the general theories about HA. Then we'll discuss the two HA suites you can use with CentOS. Finally, we will detail how to use these suites to set up a simple two-node HA cluster.
