Research on new listening practices often focuses on the impact they have on the framework of record companies and their commercial and legal concerns. However, this is not the only notable effect of the increasingly digital nature of music. This chapter explores the ways in which the digitalization of music collections alters the meaning of musical artifacts and, in turn, collector culture.
