THERE ARE TWO TYPES of cable releases. The first simply allows you to trigger the camera’s shutter, and the second not only allows you to trigger the shutter, but also has a set of more advanced features. These features include the ability to set the length of the exposure, shoot time-lapse movies, shoot multiple timed exposures, and more.

These releases are attached to the camera via a cable. It’s important to get a cable release that works with your camera. Each brand uses a different plug, and sometimes there are even differences in the ports on different camera models from the same manufacturer.
