5 The Pseudo-1930s World of Cuphead

In 2017, the video game Cuphead came out to popular and critical acclaim. As of February 2018, it had garnered an 87% rating on Metacritic and sold over 1 million copies in its first two weeks, despite being produced by an indie company and only being available online (and only for the Xbox and PC). Since then, the figures have only gotten better: It won a BAFTA award and two Annie (animation) awards, increased its Metacritic rating to 88%, and sold over 6 million copies of the original game as of 2020. It was even seen briefly on an episode of the American television program NCIS: New Orleans.1
