Life at home – the Blitz
Though Blumlein was often working night and day at Hayes on various projects to do with radar from the outbreak of war, there is a marvellous insight into his life at home from both Doreen Blumlein and his lifelong friend, J.B. Kaye. When war came, Blumlein decided to send his family away from London, so Doreen took Simon and David down to her family in Cornwall, leaving Blumlein and Kaye to make some ingenious warning and prevention devices against the bombs which were falling all around Park Royal at the time:
