To Goodrich Castle and beyond
More than ten years had passed since the challenge of writing the ‘official’ Blumlein biography had been taken up. Yet still no book had been published, nor did there seem any remote chance that it might appear in the near future. It was true that through petitioning, largely by Francis Thomson, a blue plaque had been unveiled at Blumlein’s last house in Ealing, in 1977. But with his health failing, his age fast approaching 70, and his attitude becoming more and more erratic, the staff at EMI, the family and friends of Alan Blumlein, all of whom had put their trust in Thomson, were becoming increasingly concerned for the long-term safety of the material, and the project as a whole.
