Chapter 12. Getting Started in the New Virtual Classroom

APPLY THE SEVEN BASIC PRINCIPLES in this chapter to harness the many features available in the virtual classroom in ways that promote learning. In this chapter we summarize our guidelines for new developers and facilitators of virtual classroom events. We include suggestions for converting face-to-face lessons into a virtual classroom format as well as for creating synchronous sessions "from scratch."

Basic Principles for Harnessing the Virtual Classroom

To get newcomers off to a successful start with the new virtual classroom, we lead with seven principles that serve as the foundation for the planning and creation of effective virtual classroom events, shown in Figure 12.1.
