Early artists used charcoal from their cooking fires to decorate the walls of their cave homes. Inspired by a cave painting I saw in the Dordogne valley in France, I drew this sketch using an Intuos tablet and Charcoal brushes in Painter.

I was inspired to write this book because I have enjoyed using digital art tools for more than two decades, and I am amazed by how the tools have matured and become more sensitive and user-friendly. One of the main inspirations for the book comes from the new form of creativity that the tablet and stylus give to artists.
