It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Electricity is the foundation of many prop effects. You need to understand electricity, not just for lighting and motion, but for pneumatic elements, sound equipment, and remote controllers as well. All of these are covered later in their specific chapters; this chapter covers the basics of electricity, how to hook up different components, how to make and troubleshoot circuits, and how to do it all safely.

The fundamental nature of electricity is complex: we use metaphors to help describe it. Many of these metaphors are not entirely correct at all times. However, 99 percent of the electrical props we build can be figured out with a very basic knowledge of electricity.
