A truly great piece of writing—whether it’s a novel, screenplay, play, or short story—is all about character. You can give me the most beautiful setting with the most intricate plot and if I don’t care about the main character who inhabits that beautiful setting and who is caught up in that intricate plot… well, I don’t care about your story.
