Courage

THERE ARE FEW OBSTACLES to the truly creative life that are greater than fear. We live and work in the context of the unknown, and we do so necessarily because what is known, what is tried and true, is only in the past. It’s been done. And the evolving nature of the artist—of every human—means we cannot stay in one place long without risking personal and creative stagnation. So we are always discovering and growing our vision, looking for new ways of expression. And new is scary. New brings up questions to which we have no answers. We can only do our work and see. Will the new body of work do what I hope? Will the new ideas gel? Will anyone care, much less give my work a second look?
