EVERY PHOTOGRAPH IS A COLLABORATION WITH THE CAMERA. Though I’ve spoken of the camera as merely a tool, I know it is sometimes so much more than that. My cameras have been a great gift to me since I picked up that first Voigtländer 35mm rangefinder at a garage sale, no doubt given up in favour of something newer and shinier. I was 14 then, and there was magic in that camera. I can still feel the weight of it in my hand and the cracked leather case, just as I can still hear the shutter of my Pentax Spotmatic bounce at 1/60 and the mirror on my Hasselblad 500C/M return with a sucking clunk.
