During the interview, would you ever even consider asking a man about his marital status, the ages of his children, or what his childcare arrangements are? Probably not. The questions are not job related and won’t help you determine if this individual is a good fit for the job.

Yet, women are still routinely asked potentially discriminatory questions during the preemployment interview. Questions that would almost never be asked of a male candidate for the same position would be a major tip-off that the question is not legit.

Avoid questions that are typically asked of women and not men.

  Are you married? Single?

  What does your spouse think about…?

  Do you have children? ...
