TRUTH 5 Good candidates might not talk to you

Great candidates can be terrible interviewees. They may not have had a lot of experience in interview settings precisely because they are such great employees. If they have a track record of getting snapped up by eager employers, they may simply not have the skills and practice to put themselves out there conversationally. Or maybe they’re shy. Or nervous. Or they have had test anxiety in the past, which now translates itself into interview anxiety. Keep in mind that you have had far more experience interviewing people than your candidates have. So, unless you’re hiring a public speaker or game show host, don’t look for outgoing conversationalists.
