The late Dale Ensminger graduated high school in 1941 and was drafted into the US Army, where he served for 3 years and was awarded a bronze star. He subsequently attended The Ohio State University and graduated with bachelor's degrees in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1950. He also did some postgraduate studies at OSU between 1950 and 1953. He began working at Battelle Memorial Institute in 1948 while still a student at OSU and worked there until his retirement in January 1988. During his time at Battelle, he did active research in ultrasonics and was involved in about 1,000 different projects relating to ultrasonics, acoustics, and related areas.
