11.1 INTRODUCTION
High-intensity applications of ultrasonics are those that deliver sufficient energy to produce changes in, or effects on, the media, or the contents of the media, through which the waves propagate. Various mechanisms may be activated by the ultrasonic energy to promote diverse effects which can occur in solids, multiphase systems, at interfaces, and in liquids and gases. These phenomena that occur with high-intensity ultrasound interactions are in most cases nonlinear and can involve heat, light, and sound, which cause complex chemical and physical effects on media [1].
