CHAPTER 5AI Agents + Automation Planning

Throughout the first four chapters, we have built a comprehensive framework for AI transformation, the AI Sweet Spot FrameworkTM in Figure 5-0. We have covered strategy, people, technology, and execution. This is the ideal path: start at the top, build the foundation, and execute systematically.

But I recognize the reality. Many leaders reading this book do not have the C-suite title to drive organization-wide change. You may be a division leader, department head, or team manager who sees AI’s potential but lacks authority to mandate top-down transformation. You want to get started now, within your own sphere of influence, and prove the value before seeking broader buy-in.

This chapter is your quick-start guide. It helps you secure quick wins within your team, wins you can take back to top leadership to open their eyes to what is possible. This chapter focuses on the practical question every leader asks: “What AI agents should I build?”

The answer is not as simple as picking from a menu of prebuilt solutions. It requires a shift in thinking, from “What agents should I build?” to “What problems do we need to solve?” and “What processes can be automated?” Once you understand this distinction, you will identify high-impact opportunities, prioritize effectively, and leverage AI to create AI.
