Introduction: The New Age of Business
The Unavoidable Inflection Point
This is not a drill. This statement isn’t hyperbole from a distant future; it’s a stark reality check for today’s leaders. We are standing at an inflection point in business history, a moment as transformative as the dawn of the Internet or the Industrial Revolution. The artificial intelligence opportunity has rapidly morphed into a non-negotiable business imperative. What was a “should do” just one to two years ago has become a “must do” for survival and a “master it” for market leadership.
Recent data confirms this seismic shift. As of late 2025, 88%1 of organizations globally report using AI in at least one business function, a dramatic leap from just 20% in 2017.2 However, only 33% report scaling AI solutions in their enterprise. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the adoption rate has surged to 39%, up from 26% in the previous year.3 This isn’t a slow-moving trend; it’s an accelerating wave of change.
And while the research based on surveyed data from large consulting firms is one view my good friend Nick Ning, CEO of Farpoint, presents, it is more like 100%. Most just don’t realize they are using AI.
