Preface
While I’m not a superfan of too many things, I am a massive fan of The Speed of Trust by Stephen M. R. Covey. Published in 2006, its truth is just as piercing and relevant today. He says, “There is one thing that is common to every individual, relationship, team, family, organization, nation, economy, and civilization throughout the world…That one thing is trust.”
That line has haunted me in the best way. It’s true—and yet, too often, trust is treated like vapor: vital but intangible, something we hope to feel rather than something we know how to build. But what if it’s more than that? What if trust is measurable? What if it’s something you can intentionally and systematically build within yourself, with those around you, and across every sphere you touch? And what if that effort to build trust can’t be separated from the effort to become whole—because those two things are, in fact, the same? This is the heart of the book you’re about to read.
You already know that without great leaders, your teams suffer. Without growth in your people, your mission lags. You’ve seen the damage one unprepared, unaware, or immovable leader can cause. You’ve seen how dysfunction and silence can take down momentum and morale. But you’ve also seen the opposite—a leader with clarity, courage, conviction, and compassion—and how one person like that can shift everything. You already know that without a deep, ongoing investment in people, nothing else really matters.
