Chapter 17. Networking and proximity

With the exception of games, there are few compelling mobile apps that do not rely in some way on a network connection, whether it is to retrieve data from or send it to the cloud, or to enable real-time interaction with other people and devices near and far. In Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 we cover the support in Windows Phone for HTTP and how you can build cloud services to support your app. In this chapter, we will round out our discussion of networking by covering the phone’s support for socket communication and for connecting to nearby devices through Bluetooth and Near Field Communication (NFC), an area referred to as proximity.
