In this chapter, we look at the support in Microsoft Visual Studio for building games by using Direct3D. This is not a games or Direct3D tutorial; rather, it is an exploration of the different Direct3D-enabled project types that you can use and a close examination of the starter code generated for Direct3D projects. The intent is two-fold: to cover the specifics of Direct3D in the context of Windows Phone for existing game developers new to Windows Phone; and to provide a very simple overview of Direct3D development for existing Windows Phone developers.
